Hi,found this website by chance. I just found out that I am a Hep B virus carrier through a screening test for IVF. It has had a devastating effect on my marriage life at the moment. Not only do I have this stigma condition, I am rejected for IVF treatment.
I also want to know whether being a carrier will affect my future employment prospects. I am currently a student studying to be an early years practitioner. As soon as I told my university, they immediately asked me to fill in a health declaration form. I'm so worried that I will be suspended from the course. I fear that I won't be allowed to work with young children in future. There seems to be information regarding the medical field but I can't find any information for the education field.

Sorry you're having such a worrying time. Would it be OK for me to email you personally to discuss things?
Take care

Thank you for the reply via email. The information given to me has been reassuring. Another thing I have to think about is how it will affect family planning. The doctor says that I don't really need treatment but I have been rejected for IVF from the fertility clinic. According to this clinic, there are two other clinics in the UK which would provide IVF for HIV carriers so assuming HBV included. I have yet to locate these two clinics as the one who had screened me refuse to reveal the names of others. They want my to sort my Hep B and go back to them (we are funding this privately). How can I sort it out when there's no cure?

Thank you again for the information. It has been of great help. Although we live up North, we will definitely follow up this source.

My situation is very similiar to the above member;
my partner was diagnosed with hep b virus carrier, i was vacinated and it was successful.After many months of trying for a 1st baby, we applied for ivf, but the hospital rejected the ivf treatment on the basis of the hep b, and even worse they said that all the other ivf hopital would rej also, since they don't have the facilities to quarantine the hep b virus. Totally devasted i'm 40yrs, childless, and can't have ivf treatment. We are both shell shocked.Niether of us has ever had any children previously.

Hi. We've been on our NHS IVF waiting list for 18 months following 3 unsuccessful IUI attempts. My husband is a Hep b carrier since birth and I've been vaccinated. Found out today that they won't be able to treat us after all due to lack of specifc incubator. Has anyone been able to have IVF treatment despite Hep B? Anyone got experience or knowledge of lab equipment necessary?
