The Appraisal Committee's preliminary recommendation is as follows: "Tenofovir disoproxil used as monotherapy is recommended, within its marketing authorisation, as an option for adults with HBeAg-positive or HBeAg-negative chronic hepatitis B in whom antiviral treatment is indicated".  

This very good news for people with chronic hepatitis B viral infection.  The Appraisal Consultation document is now available on the NICE website. Consultation with the formal consultees is in progress and  their comments will be considered at a second Appraisal Consultation meeting on 08 April 2009. Hopefully the end result will be a positive Final Appraisal Determination.
